Dogs and cats are prohibited in forest recreation areas and plain forest parks. After the rabies epidemic of the ferret-badger in Taiwan, the Forest Bureau immediately announced that visitors are not allowed to bring pets into controlled recreational areas and mountaineering activities, and should avoid contact with wild animals and not feed them to prevent the spread of the epidemic. In addition, a bulletin was issued on August 1, 2013 to prohibit dogs and cats in 22 forest recreation areas and 3 plain forest parks.

The cabins do not provide meal service. The cabins only provide mattresses, lockers, kitchenettes, toilets and emergency wireless communication systems.

1. Black bears frequent the trails and cabins (especially the Siangyang Cabins). Please stay alert and travel with companions.
2. Mother bears with cubs will often attack. If you see cubs, be extra cautious and keep a distance from the cubs.
3. If you come across a black bear, do not play dead or get close to take pictures. Remain calm and slowly retreat the way you came.
4. Food waste or empty cans will attract black bears to come forage. Please pack food waste, food and bags (cans) to transport down the mountain. Do not discard or stash them in the forest or cabins.
5. When setting up camp, keep food wrapped and stored in backpacks. Place the backpacks at least 50 meters away from the tents to avoid attracting black bears into the area.
6. If you hear loud noises tumbling around the cabin kitchen, do not be curious and go check. Remain inside the cabin, and close the doors and windows.

When engaging in mountain activities in areas frequented by bears, stay alert and travel with companions. If you are alone, make noise such as singing and clapping, and carry a whistle (with strap), bell (bear bell) or anti-bear spray to protect yourself.

The Office once again reminds you that should you come across a black bear, do not panic, run or scream. Remain calm and leave quickly according to the principles of what to do should you come across a bear. In addition, all garbage and food waste should be properly packed and transported down the mountain. Do not enable the black bears to connect food with humans to ensure human safety and preserve wildlife habitat.

1. Ascend gradually. An overnight stay in the middle altitude range (about 2,500 meters) before climbing is recommended to avoid direct ascend from low altitude to over 2,750 meters within one day.

2. Keep warm, eat high-carbohydrate food, drink plenty of water (2 to 3 liters per day), avoid intense exercise and eating gas-producing food (such as beans or carbonated drinks), and do not smoke or drink alcohol.

3. In case of symptoms of mountain sickness, stop climbing and immediately descend to lower the altitude, or use a portable altitude chamber (PAC) to relieve discomfort.
